Mens Interview Attire Tips:
When going to a job interview it is important to dress the part. For example if you were to be interviewing at a fast food restaurant like Taco Bell, I would not recommend showing up in a 3 piece suit. As you would most likely be over dressed. For this type of occasion You would be better off wearing a nice pair of dress slacks or khakis with a button down color shirt or a nice polo shirt. You could ad a tie to the button down shirt if you like, but it might be over the top unless you were interviewing for a management position.
On the other hand if you are trying to get a corporate job like a bank you would defiantly want to step up your game. Below you will find a list of helpful hints on how to dress the part when you interview for you dream job.
The Suit
Standard job interviewing attire for men is usually a conservative gray or dark navy two-piece business suit (of natural fibers, such as wool, if possible). Now some people will tell you that a black suit is also acceptable, while that may be the case I would shy away from a black suit as it can give the wearer a cold stand offish presence. Remember the warmer your presence the better the interview will go. So having a good attitude with a clean professional look will go along way.
More Helpful Suit Hints:
- 1.) Make sure to wear a suit that fits you well. If you go in wearing your uncle Steves suit that is 2 sizes to big. You will come across as sloppy and it may hurt your chances of getting the position. So if you can afford it get your self at least one good fitting suit. Preferably of a solid pattern and not a pin-striped suit so that you can add different slacks with the coat to versify your wardrobe.
- 2.) Be sure to have your suit cleaned and pressed before you wear it. Showing up to an interview in a wrinkled or smelly suit does not give off a take me seriously image.
The Dress Shirt
Wearing a crisp white long-sleeved dress shirt always a safe bet. However if you would like to add a little personality or want to a different look for your second interview you can easily get away with light blue or a cream dress shirt. I would stay away from colors such as pink, purple, burgundy, black, gray & greens for interview looks. Another option is a contrast collar shirt, however while this style of shirt looks great, it may be a little over the top for most lower level positions.
More Helpful Dress Shirt Hints:
- 1.) Make sure your shirt is clean, stain free and ironed for a better presentation of your self.
- 2.) Check to see that you have all your buttons fastened and that none are missing. If you can not button the top button on your dress shirt then you will need to get a larger sized shirt. If your shirt looks too baggy then you will need to get a smaller shirt.
The Neck Tie
Choosing the right tie can be a difficult decision. The best choice is to choose a conservative silk tie that matches either or both the colors in your suit and your dress shirt with maybe one addition accent color. I would not recommend wearing a tie with any sort of characters on it. If you are unsure about what tie to wear ask a few friends for their opinion.
More Helpful Hints:
- 1.) Any facial hair should be neatly trimmed.
- 2.) If you have any visible body parts pierced, most experts recommend removing all jewelry, including earrings.
- 3.) Do not have excessive body odor or cologne.
- 4.) Remember to match your belt and shoes.
- 5.) Shine your shoes before waring. Make this a daily part of your routine. You would not leave your house with out combing your hair or brushing your teeth. The same should be done for your dress shoes.
