Mens Collar Bars, Pins, & Clips

Mens Collar Bars, Clips, and Pins - Mens Suit Guide

Collar Bars (also called collar pin and collar clip) is a piece of men’s jewelry that holds the two ends of a dress shirt collar together and slides underneath the knot of a necktie. A similar function much like the tabbed collar, it keeps the collar in place and lifts the knot to give a nice arc to the necktie.

Collar bars, pins, and clips are between three and five centimeters in length and comes in one these three styles:

  • A pin, similar to a safety pin, that pierces the ends of the collar.

  • A barbell whose ends screw off and is designed to pass through specially made eyelets in the ends of the collar.

  • A bar with clips on both ends that grasp the ends of the collar.

Note: Collar bars, pins, and clips are usually not worn with buttoned-down collars and with tabbed collars would be redundant.
