Mens Collar Tabs
For those who are unaware collar tabs are small pieces of plastic or metal (usually brass) that go into the slit under your dress shirt collar. Unless you are wearing a button down or hidden button down shirt. The purpose of collar tabs is to keep your collar looking crisp and prevent it from flapping upward. Personally I like to use two under each side of my dress shirt collar, however one will work just fine. You should always have them in while you wearing your dress shirt, and remember to remove them before you wash or dry clean your shirt. If you forget and keep them in while your dress shirt is being cleaned you will run the risk of your collar tabs becoming bent or warped and they will lose their function ability. I recommend to get in the habit of taking them out right after you remove your tie. Do this with the plastic ones first and if you do well at remembering to use them and at removing them before cleaning for a while then you will be ready to graduate to the metal ones.
